From Drawing to 3D Printed Hobby Horse

One of the best parts of running a 3D printing business, is when customers come to us with an idea that is a little “out there”. So when a young customer came to see us at The Original Emporium with a very specific idea, we were excited to help turn her idea into a reality.

The Challenge

Our customer wanted us to transform a drawing she had meticulously pulled together, into a 3D printed hobby horse.

The drawing was inspired by her favourite cartoon series, and she wanted to use the horse as part of her Halloween costume, so we were working to a very tight deadline.

Our biggest concern was whether we would be able to successfully transform a flat image into a rounded 3-dimensional model that accurately matched what the customer had in mind for the horse.

The Solution

Chris approached this project by taking a photograph of the drawing, and imported it into Fusion 360 and drew the basic shape from which he then extruded a 3D model. This model was then imported into Nomad Sculpt, where additional shaping was applied to get a more rounded 3D shape. It was then exported, ready to print.

The Results

Our customer was thrilled with the final 3D printed horse, that she was able to paint and decorate as she wanted, to match her Halloween costume.
